Each year about 30 million Americans select and take home a fresh cut Christmas Tree to decorate with ornaments and lights for the holidays. Your tree has been intentionally planted and grown for your enjoyment and is a renewable source—it is a farm crop that is harvested during the holiday season. Here are some of our favorites facts about Christmas Trees:
-
Buying real trees helps keep tree farms in business - and in turn keep their lands covered in healthy forest habitat that wildlife depends on to survive.
-
Artificial trees will last for years in your home but for centuries in a landfill.
-
Fifty-nine percent of real Christmas trees harvested are recycled in community programs.
-
Real trees don't require the intensive carbon emissions that it takes to produce and ship artificial trees.
-

-
A trip to your local tree farm is a fun holiday outing, and a walk through the woods on a brisk winter afternoon is a great way to soothe holiday stress and create traditions with your family!
HOW TO CARE FOR
YOUR TREE
Before you leave
When you purchase a pre-cut tree or cut your own, we will ensure a straight fresh cut, shake, and drilling (if desired) before you take it home. If you do not have a straight fresh cut, the trunk of the tree will be unable to draw in water, it will die much quicker, and it may lean when you put it up at home. Most tree species can go up to 6 hours after being cut and still draw in water.
Water, water, water
Whether you cut your own tree, or buy a pre-cut, the most important thing is to water your tree. If you are unable to set up your tree immediately, just set it in a bucket of water. Once you set up your tree indoors, be sure to water it often. The first couple days, it will need a lot of water, but will eventually taper off. The temperature of the water does not affect the trees ability to absorb it. If the water level falls below the butt of the tree trunk it will reseal itself and not draw in water anymore.
Temperature
Your tree will last longer if you keep the temperature in your house moderate - between 65-70 degrees is best. It is also best to avoid setting up your tree near a fireplace, heat register, or vent as this will dry out the tree quicker. If you cannot avoid this, help minimize the damage by watering often.
